Optimal integration of interconnected water and electricity networks

With the widespread deployment of advanced heterogeneous technologies and growing complexity in our modern society, there is an increasing demand for risk-aware management joint operation interconnected infrastructures lifeline networks. The coordination between Power Water Networks (PWNs) urgently needed as water networks are one most energyintensive critical infrastructures. This paper proposes a framework day-ahead optimization Joint (JPWNs). Unlike state-of-the-art where PWNs individually operated their respective domains, we present integrated that conjoins Optimal Flow (OPF) mechanisms power grids with innovative models Piece-wise linearization applied to nonlinear hydraulic operating constraints convert proposed model into mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) formulation. suggested 15-node network jointly IEEE 9-bus 57-bus test systems. simulation results show effectiveness framework, resulting cost reduction energy-saving when both systems’ optimized. methodology scalable computationally-efficient larger-scale
